The IndiEarth XChange Music Festival 2015 offers a colourful and varied selection of independent artists from different corners of India, and from far reaches of the globe. This year’s programming focuses on diversity, showcasing a spectrum of classical, folk, roots, world, contemporary, alternative, and electronica artists.

Zoo

Zoo is a four piece electronic-alternative outfit from Kolkata, India. The music and the philosophy of the band brings forward a very organic alternative sound with coherent elements of drum-n-bass, ambient, industrial to portray the essence of metropolitan human life. Formed in 2011, Zoo recorded and released their first self-produced independent EP The Attic Sessions on the 14th of July 2012 and released their debut album Atoms And Combinations from Metal Postcard Records, Hong Kong in June 2014.

Saskia Rao-De Haas

Dutch Cellist Saskia Rao-De Haas is hailed as a pioneer in the world of music for introducing her own instrument, the Indian Cello to Classical Indian music. Speaking about Saskia, flute maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia said on National Television that Saskia is “someone who has been taught by God” and “everybody should listen to her music”. She has composed music for various ensembles and collaborated with artists across genres from all over the world.

Lakhan Das Baul

Lakhan Das Baul is a Baul singer - a community of mystic minstrels from rural Bangladesh and West Bengal, India. Bauls belong to an unorthodox devotional tradition, and do not identify themselves with any organised religion nor with the caste system, special deities, temples or sacred places. They are admired for a freedom from convention as well as their music and poetry - placing emphasis on the importance of a person’s physical body as the place where God resides. Lakhan Das Baul has collaborated with acts like Swarathma, and has performed across the globe and around the country at festivals like the NH7 Weekender.

Tails On Fire

Tails on Fire is a genre breaking rock outfit from Chennai that was formed in 2011. The band features Karan Nair on vocals, T.T Sriram on guitars, Jitesh Dharmaraj on bass and Ritesh Dharmaraj on drums. With influences ranging from Classic Rock, Grunge, Funk and the Blues, the band has managed to conjure up a signature sound that turns every gig into an adrenaline infused mob scene. Addictive melodies, soul-shaking grooves, enigmatic riffs and a tight rhythm section explode with the energy of a nuclear warhead at every live performance, making the band a hot favorite at popular venues across the country.

The Hussain Group Qawwals

Ustad Ahsan Hussain Khan Quadri has been performing traditional Qawwali music for over 40 years, and is the son of the late Ustad Qurban Hussain Khan Sahab - a Classical singer in the royal court of the Gwalior family. Ustad Ahsan Hussain Khan and his son Adil Hussain Khan are the lead singers of the Hussain Group Qawwal.

Curtain Blue is Abhishek Bhatia's solo project . Vocalist of a Delhi based band, The Circus, Abhishek has also been producing his own electronic music and has finally decided to take it live in the Curtain Blue avatar. Fusing haunting vocal melodies with down tempo and bass sensibilities, he aims to create a textural blend which can uniquely be called his own. Curtain blue draws inspiration from artists such as Radiohead, Apparat, Moderat, Jon Hopkins, while creating a niche for itself.

The Bangalore/Cochin based Alternative Rock band was formed in 2011 when they jammed with a couple of friends in their hometown. Their debut album 'Shapes On The Wall' is inspired by bands like Washed Out, Band Of Horses, Braids, Tycho, Tame Impala, Toro Y Moi, Atoms For Peace, Baths, Wild Beasts, Jon Hopkins, Deerhunter, their music is intense, soulful and transcendent. Considered as 'An Artist to Watch out for ' by The Rolling Stone Magazine in 2012 and nominated for "The best upcoming Artist" category for Jack Daniels Rock Awards in 2013, Black Letters is now known to be one of the most creative and appreciated bands in the country. The band has toured all over the country and has played the biggest festivals including the NH7 Weekender and the Go Mad festival.

Thappattam is a traditional folk troupe from Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, South India. The troupe features thappattam drummers - a South Indian percussive tradition common in rural areas, featuring powerful rhythms and percussive textures. The troupe also features traditional instruments from Tamil Nadu like the thavil drum (a barrel shaped drum) and the nadaswaram (a double reed wind instrument).

Komorebi

Komorebi is an electronica outfit from New Delhi, spearheaded by Tarana Marwah who started this project independently in February 2015. A twisted test-tube offspring of Pink Floyd, St. Vincent and Alt-J morphed into a haunting folklore ensemble, the nostalgic sound of Komorebi demands your attentive ears as the accordion and ukelele guide you into an ocean of vocal harmonies and euphoric ambience.

Borkung Hrangkhawl

Borkung Hrangkhawl, more commonly known by his stage name BK is a freestyle rapper and singer-songwriter from Kamlacherra, Tripura India. He started his musical journey with the former New Delhi based hip-hop group DropSquad who were offered to sign with Times Music in 2010 upon winning the nationwide talent hunt “Supastars”. Since then, he has performed across the country, has opened for acts like Hoobastank, and writes lyrics that are politically conscious in nature.
