Conference: Impact Of Films For Social Change

This conference explores the relationship between art and cinema with a social message, and its ability to actually effect concrete change. Does cinema have the power to move its audiences into action? The panelists discuss various films and the resulting social reformations they have aimed to bring about, and the overall power of art as a medium for change.

Conference: International Touring For Roots Music

The promotion of traditional/folk/indigenous art forms on the commercial touring circuit requires certain approaches and methodologies that differ to touring a contemporary or ‘popular’ music act. This panel discusses ways to provide performance spaces and showcase opportunities for traditional and indigenous artists, different models for making touring options economically sustainable, and approaches to sourcing and engaging with new audiences for the artist worldwide.

Platforms like YouTube occupy an interesting space in the contemporary entertainment scene by allowing artists the opportunity to distribute content, however the ease of distribution often leads to a multitude of problems including conflicting copyright claims, takedown notices and erroneous royalty collection. This panel focuses on addressing these concerns while attempting to understand how to legally protect one's uploads and copyright claims.

Presentation - Building A World: Graphic Novels And The Imagination

Creating a graphic novel is also creating a self-contained world. Writer Jai Undurti will show how different mediums and disciplines - filmmaking, painting, photography, architecture - are brought to bear in constructing an imaginary terrain. Explore whether this world can form a zone where different story-telling forms meet, where narratives and counter-narratives clash, where dreams, memory and craft mingle leading to a new cartography of the imagination.
