There is widespread agreement that entrepreneurial skills are crucial for musicians today. Formal music education is not necessarily well equipped to deal with the constantly changing landscape of the industry. Four diverse institutions explore formal and non-formal approaches to address the growing gap between formal music curricula and the knowledge and skills required by the professional industry. The approaches recognise the importance of youth and community, and look to provide authentic, real-world learning such as student-run enterprise, industry partnerships and community engagement. The panel share practice, ideas and experiences that will influence the perspectives and skills of young musicians and in turn, the future music industry.

Conference: Media and The Arts: Finding An Honest Voice

This conference discusses the voice of the critic and the role the Media plays in the growth of a city’s art, music and cinema culture. Panelists discuss how heads of content decide which events receive coverage, and what role readership value plays when determining whether or not to feature offbeat, interesting content. The panel also discusses the importance of an honest voice in the context of arts journalism in India - informed critiques that can be harsh, but often lead to the growth of an artist and quality of content as a whole.
